We welcome enthusiastic, dedicated and positive volunteers who are committed to empowering girls with valuable life lessons. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.
Coach a team
Overview
YOU can make a positive impact in the lives of girls in our community as a community coach. Each team of 8-20 girls is led by 2 or more volunteer coach-mentors who work together to lead their teams through 20 fun and interactive lessons.
During a thorough training course, volunteers gain access to the resources needed to lead a small group of 3rd-5th or 6th-8th grade girls in developing important life skills and healthy habits. Our staff will provide you with everything you need to make a real difference in the lives of girls in our community.
This season, girls need caring and supportive adults like you to help them nurture their physical and emotional health, find strength in connectedness and build confidence and resiliency. The girls need YOU!
The Head Coach is a volunteer who works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails approximately 4-5 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.
Requirements
- Head coach must be a woman
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must consent to and complete a background check
- Complete Coach Training (online curriculum in addition to in person training.
- Participate in two practices per week for a weekly time commitment of approximately 4-5 hours
- Have fun!
Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model for program participants
- Prepare, organize materials, and supervise weekly lessons (curriculum is provided)
- Work with Girls on the Run staff; read all Girls on the Run emails and respond as needed
- Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
- Facilitate communication with parents/guardians of program participants
- Purchase healthy snacks for the team with gift card provided
- Help recruit running buddies to participate in the 5K with your girls
- Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K celebration
- Return all curricula and materials at the end of the season

WHEN AND WHERE IS COACH TRAINING?
You will receive an email with options after your coach application is submitted.
CAN I CHOOSE THE SITE WHERE I COACH?
Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If coaches do not have a preference, we will work with the coach to match them with a location in need of volunteers.
ARE THERE COACHING EXPENSES?
There are not any expenses to coach. You will be provided a gift card to purchase healthy snacks for your Girls on the Run team. Receipts must be submitted at the end of the season.
